True Crime Podcast Listeners Triple in Five Years

Earlier this year, Edison Research and audiochuck presented The True Crime Consumer Report – a report on the rapidly expanding world of True Crime content of all kinds, naturally including podcasts.
Data from Edison Podcast Metrics™ shows just how quickly this genre has grown.
In 2019, we estimated that 6.7 million Americans age 18 and older listened to True Crime podcasts in an average week. This number has exploded to over 19.1 million such listeners today.
True Crime was in fifth place behind Sports in 2019, and now it has far surpassed that category and is in fourth place just behind News. Comedy, which has enjoyed significant growth as well, and Society & Culture remain the leaders overall.
