According to the latest publication of the Top Podcast Genres in the U.S. for Q4 2022 – Q1 2023 from Edison Research, comedy continues to be the genre consumed by most weekly podcast listeners age 13+. The list ranks the most popular podcast genres based on audience size among weekly podcast listeners from Edison Podcast Metrics.
Podcasts are classified according to the self-identified genre submitted by the podcast to Apple Podcast API. Nineteen genres are identified as having at least one percent reach among those in the U.S. age 13+ for Q4 2022 – Q1 2023, and the full list is below.
Edison Podcast Metrics is the only podcast measurement service that measures the relative audience size and demographics of all podcast networks in the U.S. It is the only measurement based on actual podcast listening, not downloads, and does not require an opt-in from podcast networks. The genre ranker is derived from data collected continuously Q4 2022 – Q1 2023, from surveying weekly podcast consumers ages 13 and older in the U.S. Participants indicate which podcasts they listened to in the past week along with a variety of demographic, psychographic, and purchase behavior information.
