Share of Ear® study Expands To Quarterly Measurement, Due To Industry Demand

By edison

Edison Research, the industry leader in streaming audio research, will expand its influential Share of Ear® study to quarterly measurement, based on overwhelming demand from all quarters of the audio industry.

Introduced last May, the “Share of Ear” report measures American’s share of time spent listening to all audio sources. It is the only single-source measurement that puts broadcast radio, Internet-only streaming audio, podcasting, satellite radio, TV music channels, and listeners’ own music collections together.

Edison has been releasing early findings from the fall 2014 study, but full “Share of Ear” survey findings are available by subscription only to Edison Research clients.

“We are extremely gratified, to say the least, by the industry response to the ‘Share of Ear,’ study, not just from the streaming audio industry but from the advertising, financial, and academic communities,” says Edison Research president Larry Rosin. “It is clear from the response how many people have an interest in an accurate, comprehensive look at the audio landscape.”

How the Study is Conducted:

Edison Research conducted a nationally representative study of 2,021 Americans ages 13 and older to measure their time spent listening to audio sources. Respondents completed a 24-hour diary of their audio listening on an assigned day. Diaries were completed both online and by-mail using a paper diary. Online diaries were completed November 4-15, 2014 and diaries by-mail were completed October 14-20, 2014. Diaries were completed in both English and Spanish.
